There is a lot of noise around health right now.
What to eat.
What to avoid.
What you should be doing to feel better, think clearer, and age well.
So this month, instead of thinking of all the goals, I have been thinking about all the growth.
Not the flashy kind. Not the ‘new year, new me’ kind. But the kind that actually feels good for my soul.
(If you haven’t read it yet, I would nudge you to read my blog, Plant-Based Eating for Brain Health: How to Protect Your Memory, Mood & Energy as You Age, before diving into this one.)
While information can be helpful, it often leaves us with one lingering question:
How am I actually doing?
That question — not perfection — is what inspired The Best You Brain Health Quiz.
Not as a test.
Not as a diagnosis.
But a gentle, honest check-in — especially for women 45+ who are navigating changing hormones, busy lives, and the quiet (sometimes confusing) shifts in energy, mood, and mental clarity.
The Best You Brain Health Quiz
For each statement below, rate yourself on a scale of 1–5, where:

5 = Very true for me, most days
1. Mental clarity & focus
I feel mentally clear, focused, and able to concentrate through most of the day.
2. Mood & emotional steadiness
My mood feels relatively steady, and I feel emotionally resilient rather than reactive or overwhelmed.
3. Sleep & restoration
I wake up feeling rested, and my sleep supports my energy, memory, and mood.
4. Daily movement
I move my body most days in a way that supports my brain — walking, strength training, stretching, or gentle movement.
5. Brain-supportive nutrition
Most days, I eat foods that support brain health — leafy greens, berries, beans, healthy fats, omega-3s, and fermented foods.

What Your Brain Health Score Is Really Telling You
Here’s the most important thing to know before we talk about numbers:
This quiz is not about judging your health.
It’s about noticing patterns.
Brain health is influenced by far more than one habit or one “good” or “bad” choice. It’s shaped by sleep, stress, digestion, hormones, nourishment, and the season of life you’re in. If brain fog has been on your radar, you may also find this helpful.
Your score simply helps us listen more closely.
If Your Score Was on the Lower End (5–12)
This range often reflects a brain that’s feeling under-supported — not broken.
Many women here describe:
• brain fog or mental fatigue
• low or inconsistent energy
• sleep that doesn’t feel truly restorative
• difficulty staying consistent with habits
In my experience, this is often less about willpower and more about stress load, blood sugar balance, sleep disruption, or gut health quietly doing their thing in the background.
The hopeful part?
This is where small, intentional changes can make a meaningful difference — sometimes surprisingly quickly.
If Your Score Landed in the Middle (13–19)
This range usually tells me you’ve already built a solid foundation.
There are things you’re doing right — and you can feel it.
At the same time, you may notice:
• good weeks followed by depleted ones
• habits that fall away when life gets busy
• clarity and energy that feel almost there
This is often the stage where fine-tuning matters more than adding more. Supporting sleep more intentionally, being purposeful with brain-supportive foods, and creating habits that fit your real life (not your ideal one) can go a long way.
If You Scored on the Higher End (20–25)
This range reflects strong, consistent habits — something to feel proud of.
At this level, brain health becomes less about improvement and more about protection.
Protecting sleep during stressful seasons.
Protecting nourishment during busy weeks.
Protecting your nervous system as hormones shift.
This is where long-term cognitive health is quietly built — through maintenance, not extremes.
Why This Score Can Change (Especially for Women 45+)
One of the most empowering things to understand about brain health is this:
Your score is not fixed.
It can change with:
• stress levels
• sleep quality
• digestive health
• hormonal transitions
• emotional and cognitive load
Midlife brings real physiological shifts — in estrogen, cortisol response, sleep architecture, and gut microbiome balance — all of which directly affect brain health. This is why generic advice often falls flat. I recently shared the daily habits I personally rely on to support brain health at 48.
And it’s why women 45+ need a different, more nuanced approach.
The Quiz Is a Starting Point — Not the Whole Story
If you’re reading this and thinking:
• “This explains a lot.”
• “I see myself in this.”
• “I want help making this make sense for me.”
That’s not a weakness — it’s awareness.
The quiz gives us a snapshot and you noticed something important. Let’s talk about it.
If taking this quiz helped you see patterns — but also raised new questions — a short one-on-one conversation can help you make sense of what this is telling you.
